The Cleveland Browns drafting LB Carson Schwesinger a year ago immediately raised eyebrows about what it means for the future of Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah.

Owusu-Koramoah was lost in Week 8 of the 2024 NFL season with a neck injury he suffered when attempting to tackle Baltimore Ravens RB Derrick Henry. Owusu-Koramoah didn’t play at all in 2025, and the latest update on his future is unfortunate.

Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah is doubtful to play in the NFL again

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, Owusu-Koramoah is ‘doubtful at best’ to ever make it back to the playing field—a very sad and unfair update for the former Pro Bowl linebacker. Cleveland selecting Schwesinger at the top of the second round last season was the writing on the wall.

Schwesinger was the Defensive Rookie of the Year with 146 tackles, 2.5 sacks, two interceptions, and nine hits on the quarterback. Pairing Owusu-Koramoah at his peak with Schwesinger very well could have given the Browns the best linebacker tandem in the NFL.

Owusu-Koramoah was a Pro Bowler in 2023 in his third NFL season with 101 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two interceptions, and a forced fumble. The former second-round pick of the 2021 NFL Draft was progressing toward All-Pro territory in 2024 before he suffered the neck injury. JOK had 61 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, three sacks, one forced fumble, and one interception in eight games.

Cleveland operated with Devin Bush and Schwesinger as its top two linebackers in 2025. Bush is scheduled to be a free agent, so it’ll be interesting to see if the Browns look to bring him back and continue what was working.

In 49 career games over four seasons, Owusu-Koramoah made 308 tackles, eight sacks, six forced fumbles, and three interceptions. While the report doesn’t guarantee JOK will never play again, it would be a real shock to everyone.

Owusu-Koramoah is one of the most talented defenders to ever play for the Browns and has a career full of accolades ahead of him. It’s the worst-case scenario for the playing future of the Browns’ fan favorite.
