Shedeur Sanders has been a popular talking point for the Cleveland Browns, even if he isn’t seeing many opportunities just yet behind the players at the top of the depth chart.
The Browns rookie worked with the second and third teams on Monday, as Kenny Pickett was sidelined with a hamstring injury. Sanders, along with Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, is expected to see an increased number of reps while Pickett recovers.
Sanders surprisingly fell to the fifth round of the draft — a drop that caught many off guard. Now, he’ll have to climb the depth chart, something he clearly has on his mind.
Deion Sanders recently revealed that Shedeur asked him not to attend training camp just yet
As the son of Deion Sanders, many have wondered when the NFL Hall of Famer might make an appearance at Browns training camp. Deion is friends with the Haslam family and has relationships with both Kevin Stefanski and Andrew Berry, but it sounds like that visit will be delayed.
“He didn’t want me to come,” Deion said recently. “He was like, ‘Dad, I may get three or four reps in practice. I don’t want you seeing that. I’m not where I want to be. Let me get where I need to be.’ He ain’t mad. He’s like, ‘I got work to do, but I’m going to put in this work. When preseason comes, watch me work.’”
With Flacco entering his 18th NFL season, don’t expect the Browns to give him many reps during the preseason games. Cleveland has typically been cautious with its veterans during exhibition play, which should create more opportunities for the rookie quarterbacks. Over the course of the Browns’ three preseason games, Sanders is expected to get plenty of live reps — the kind of experience that can’t be replicated in practice.
Based on what his father shared, it’s clear Sanders is locked in on his development. And once he starts earning more meaningful reps, it won’t be long before Deion is spotted at Browns camp.
