Cleveland Browns are turning heads after their Week 1 performance against the Cincinnati Bengals, mainly on the defensive side of the ball.

One unit that stood out was Cleveland’s defensive backfield who had the Bengals’ passing game nearly nonexistent with the help of the pass rush. Cornerback Denzel Ward reiterated what Martin Emerson Jr. previously said, that Cleveland has the best cornerbacks in the NFL.

"I'm right there with him. I feel like we're the best trio in the league, for sure,” Ward told the media on Friday. “We can't just say that. We've got to go out there and back it up."

In large part due to Ward’s glove-like defense, Cincinnati’s Ja’Marr Chase was held to just 39 yards receiving. Cleveland made Tee Higgins non-existent with zero catches.

It is a strong start to the season for the Browns and the defense as a whole under new defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz. Though it is just one week down out of a 17-game season, the Browns have to build off of the early success.

Ward was asked if this was the most fun he’s had with the Browns so far over the last couple of months, his answer is exactly what Browns fans would want to hear.

“It is. I'm having a lot of fun out there."

Second-year cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. has teamed up with Ward and third-year cornerback Greg Newsome to make a trip that can match up with anyone. There will be bumps in the road, but the group is as good as any on paper.

Vibes are high around Lake Erie and Cleveland will be able to keep that rolling with a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football.
