After a rough Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, Deshaun Watson did look a bit better overall and more comfortable in the Week 2 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

It was at least a step in the right direction for the Browns, but still not where it needs to be yet. One thing that could help the offense and Watson tremendously is getting the top wide receiver option involved.

Amari Cooper is struggling to start the season and has had a few chances to make a big play, but has three drops already to start the season, and one of those drops could have gone for a touchdown at least.

On Wednesday during his media availability, Watson explained a bit about why he and Cooper are not connecting through the first two weeks.

“Sometimes it depends on the defensive coordinators and the way they scheme sometimes. Sometimes it is the way the game is playing out, but we never lose faith in each other,” explained Watson. “It is a long season and we are just going to continue to work and figure it out.”

So far, Cooper has caught just five of 16 targets and has five catches for 27 yards to his name. It is a big change for a player who has led the Browns in receiving each of the last two seasons. Last season, Cooper had a career-high 1,250 yards for the Browns.

Watson and the offense as a whole need Cooper to be a major part of things. David Njoku will likely miss a second straight game this week against the New York Giants, so the Browns need Cooper to pick up some of that missed production. Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore were both involved much more last week against Jacksonville.

There is optimism that it will work out from Watson and that Cleveland’s 30-year-old wideout will still have a big impact out there on Sundays. Ultimately, it could just be a slow start for a player that did not participate in training camp.

“But when it do click it is definitely going to be very exciting for us.”
