In the Cleveland Browns’ 24-3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, it was the rushing attack that led the way for the offense.
Out of Cleveland’s 350 total yards, 206 of those came on the ground. Nick Chubb started the season strong with 106 yards rushing and Deshaun Watson chipped in 45 yards running.
Following the game, Watson had very high praise for his running back whom he’s thankful to be playing alongside in Cleveland.
"The best in the world. The best in the league,” Watson said. “He kept doing what he needed to do. I wish he could have gotten in the end zone a couple of times."
Chubb did not have a rushing touchdown, but those will surely come this season. The Pro Bowl running back caught four passes for 21 yards additionally.
Year after year, Chubb is good for 1,000 yards and much more. With a 100-yard game to start the season, Chubb is off to a good start to make it five straight seasons of at least 1,000 yards.
Watson himself did not have the best of games, specifically through the air. He threw an interception on a tipped pass and finished 16-of-29 passing, as well as a touchdown. Cleveland’s quarterback added a rushing touchdown.
"I think the biggest statement for us, regardless of the adversity, regardless of the weather conditions…to go out there and get this victory,” Watson said.
Cleveland is 1-0 to start the season but it’s no easy road from here. It’ll be the Pittsburgh Steelers for the Browns next week on Monday Night Football.
“It feels great. Especially against a division rival, a team that's elite. It definitely sets the tone for this year, but we've got a lot to improve. Once we wake up, flush it and move on to Pittsburgh. They hate us. We hate them."
