Sometimes in the NFL, your first career start isn’t going to go as planned. That was very much the case for Cleveland’s rookie quarterback in Week 4.

2023 fifth-round pick Dorian Thompson-Robinson was on the wrong end of a 28-3 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.

“Nobody likes losing, especially me. I’m a big winner and that’s what everybody was hoping for today, including myself. So, like I said, we got a lot to clean up,” said Thompson-Robinson. “I have a lot to clean up. Going out there for the first time and now actually getting some tape to watch on myself to see what I need to correct. But, yeah, there’s definitely a lot to clean up.”

Just about an hour before the game, everyone thought that Deshaun Watson would be starting. He realized Sunday morning while throwing that he wouldn’t be able to go out and be himself with his shoulder.

“I prep every day like I’m playing. I prep every day like Deshaun’s not in the building, even though I’m asking him a bunch of questions,” explained the rookie. “You know, just so happened that this week Deshaun was hurt and I had to take most of the practice reps. But at the end of the day, this is Deshaun’s team, so I’m doing everything I can to make sure I fulfill my role in helping this team win.”

Going into Sunday, Watson didn’t practice much at all throwing-wise the entire week in preparation for the Ravens. The writing was on the wall that he wouldn’t play but even Watson said he would be fine to go on Sunday.

Thompson-Robinson’s first start ended with him going 19-for-36 with three interceptions and no touchdowns. It was an ugly offensive performance as a group.

Going away from the bad performance, Thompson-Robinson still is in a good spot it seems.

“I hadn’t played the first three games. I played a little bit preseason. I love playing football, man. I love being out there with the guys and making sure that I’m the one out there making the calls, going through the reads, going through the footwork. So I’m a football player at heart. This is what I love to do and I’m going to take advantage of every opportunity I get.”
