The Cleveland Browns have a first-round pick for the first time since 2021 after paying their dues to the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson.
Now that the Browns have a first-round pick, they have to hit on this one. Picking at No. 2 overall gives Cleveland a chance to land a premium talent that the roster could use badly.
While the Browns need a franchise quarterback like a fish needs water, they aren’t going to force it at No. 2 overall. Momentum is growing that Cleveland will be going in a different direction with their top pick.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes the Browns aren’t going quarterback at No. 2
Miami QB Cam Ward seems all but solidified as the No. 1 pick to the Tennessee Titans. The next quarterback on the board is Shedeur Sanders, but it appears he could be falling down the draft board a bit.
"It certainly feels like the Cleveland Browns are inclined to look elsewhere besides the quarterback," Schefter said on “The Pat McAfee Show” recently. "It is starting to feel like the New York Giants are starting to look elsewhere, other than quarterback."
This goes along with Schefter saying just last week that Penn State DE Abdul Carter was tracking to be the No. 2 overall pick. That aligns with going with the best player available on the board, which most believe is Carter or Colorado’s Travis Hunter.
The gap between the second quarterback and the next couple isn’t large at all and the Browns may be more inclined to trade up near the end of the first or draft one at pick No. 33 overall.
We are three weeks away from the draft officially and teams are finalizing their boards. It’s becoming more clear that the Browns are leaning in a certain direction.
