We are less than a month away from the 2025 NFL Draft and it will be the first draft since 2021 the Browns make a first-round selection.
What the Browns do with that pick seems to be a mystery to this point. The Cleveland Browns have a glaring need at quarterback, but that doesn’t mean they have to take said quarterback at No. 2 overall.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns are leaning toward going the opposite route and spending their first pick on the defensive side of the football.
“I would handicap Abdul Carter right now as the likely pick at No. 2 today,” Schefter said on “NFL Live” on Wednesday. “We reserve the right to change our mind, a lot of things change. The way this is shaking out to me, it looks like he is tracking to be a Brown. Let’s see how it plays out.”
Taking Carter would give the Browns the most dangerous EDGE duo in the NFL. Carter can be a Pro Bowl-level player in Year 1 in the NFL, he is indeed that good. The Penn State product piled up 12 sacks in 2024 in his first season as a full-time pass rusher.
Carter is an elite athlete at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds. The potential No. 2 overall pick runs a 4.48 40-yard dash and has excellent pursuit when he’s on the field. A player that would undoubtedly raise the cowling of the defense and team as a whole.
Cleveland can not ignore their quarterback situation and have to address that this offseason. In the end, they’ll sign or acquire a veteran, as well as draft a quarterback. Having a capable quarterback with whichever route that comes and drafting Carter could be the best scenario on the table in the draft.
Cleveland Browns should be weighing this quarterback trade scenario that may be able get them through the 2025 season and beyond
An interesting option for the Browns if they want to reach out to the NFC team.
