The Cleveland Browns once again went through a quarterback carousel in 2025, with three players getting starts. Cleveland was once again hurt by poor quarterback play, though there wasn’t a whole lot around the position to win with.

Joe Flacco got the first four starts, then Dillon Gabriel was the first rookie to get thrown into the fire. Shedeur Sanders started the last seven games for the Browns in Kevin Stefanski’s final season with the franchise.

Kevin Stefanski opens up about Browns QB Shedeur Sanders

The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine has been going on all week and it’s a chance to get to hear general managers and coaches speak around the NFL. During his own media tour during combine week, Stefani was asked about Sanders.

“I love Shedeur,” Stefanski said on the Pardon My Take Podcast. “I loved coaching him, seriously. He’s got the right makeup for this game; he was wired the right way.”

I wish that we won more obviously, but if you saw how he played down the stretch, I mean, he’s a young player that’s getting better.”

Sanders was the better of Cleveland’s two rookies, though he didn’t have a strong year for the Browns. Sanders held a 3-4 record and completed 57 percent of his passes for 1,400 passing yards, seven passing touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Sanders took 23 sacks as a rookie in the seven starts.

Cleveland took Sanders in the fifth round of the draft last year because they didn’t want to pass on his value by that point in the draft. With his first season behind him, Sanders will be one of the quarterbacks to get a chance to start for the Browns in 2026.

Sanders comes with a strong personality and it doesn’t necessarily fit with everyone. Not every coach will like how he comes across, but it sounds like Stefanski enjoyed coaching him. The Browns quarterback is a hard worker, willing to grow, and a good teammate. Those are all things coaches want in their guy under center.

Stefanski is out of the picture and Sanders remains in the picture. It’ll be interesting to see where both of their careers go and what they look like down the road.
