Cleveland Browns will be without a pair of starters from the active roster when they try to move to 1-1 on the season in Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Jedrick Wills Jr. will once again be out in Week 2 with a knee injury from last season that the Browns haven’t wanted to put a whole lot out about. Additionally, Cleveland will be without tight end David Njoku, who was ruled out earlier in the week with the sprained ankle that he suffered against the Cowboys in Week 1. Tackle Jack Conklin is questionable to play against the Jaguars.
It is already known that the Browns will be without safety Juan Thornhill, defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, cornerback Myles Harden, and linebackers Tony Fields II and Mohamoud Diabate to the injured reserve.
Wills returned to practice over a week ago initially and has been in and out since then, without much explanation. On Wednesday he did not participate and Wills was limited on Thursday and Friday. Conklin was limited on Wednesday and Thursday and was able to practice Friday.
With Njoku out it will be Jordan Akins filling in for him in the offense. Akins spent time with Deshaun Watson in Houston and will look to be a plus for the offense. With Wills out and Conklin questionable, it very well could be James Hudson again at left tackle in Week 2.
Jacksonville has their own problems in Week 2
Jacksonville is dealing with their own injury issues for the Week 2 matchup. Top cornerback Tyson Campbell will not be playing and it appears that safety Darnell Savage will not be able to give it a go against the Browns. That is two starters down in the secondary for the Jaguars. If Deshaun Watson wants to bounce back, now is the time to do it against a much lesser secondary.
