The Cleveland Browns are riding high off the Week 6 win over the San Francisco 49ers that no one gave them a chance in.
It was the Browns defense stepping up in a big way to help defeat the previously undefeated 49ers, 19-17.
Coming away from the win, some players stood out more than others, as well as a coach who deserved to be on this week’s ‘winners’.
DC Jim Schwartz
Schwartz at defensive coordinator handily looks like the biggest offseason addition for the Browns. Now 9-1 all-time against Kyle Shanahan, Schwartz looks to be the 49ers head coach’s kryptonite. Right now, the Browns have the No. 1 defense in the league and Schwartz’s system looks flawless.
WR Amari Cooper
On just four catches, Cooper went over the 100-yard mark against the 49ers. The veteran wideout stepped up with a backup quarterback and made his life a lot easier. Cooper grabbed a jump ball out of the air on the sideline and broke free down the opposite sideline on another play. It was a big day for No. 2.
RB Jerome Ford
I’ve been calling for it and it finally happened, the running game showed something without Nick Chubb. Why they waited to show it against a stout defense? I can’t answer that. But Ford averaged just under five yards a carry on 17 runs. It was a good day at the office for him.
LB Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah
It was a big day for JOK. The third-year linebacker had five tackles, a sack, and a pass breakup. Owusu-Koramoah was able to get a tackle for a loss as well. Behind a much better defensive interior this season, Owusu-Koramoah is really coming into his own. He played at a very high level in Week 6, it was a breakout kind of game.
CB Martin Emerson Jr.
Brock Purdy gifted Emerson his first career interception on Sunday, it was bound to happen soon. Emerson was a very willing tackle additionally and continued to show why he’s one of the better young corners in the game.
Browns make Fox analyst Jimmy Johnson eat his words in big way
He will want to retract that statement.
