A new career path has come up for a one-time draft pick of the Cleveland Browns who was a playmaker for them for a few seasons.

Former Browns RB Duke Johnson is heading to the college football world where he will be a student assistant with the Miami Hurricanes.

Johnson was a third-round pick by the Browns in the 2015 NFL Draft after a college career at Miami. Johnson operated as a multi-dimensional back who was a better receiving back than he was running between the tackles.

In his four seasons with the Browns, Johnson recorded a total of 1,286 rushing yards and 2,170 receiving yards. Cleveland traded Johnson to the Houston Texans in 2019 where he spent two seasons. After that, he played in five games for the Miami Dolphins in 2021 and a single game for the Buffalo Bills in 2022.

It appears that Johnson is hanging it up after not playing in a game in 2023, though nothing is official. During his time with the Browns, Johnson was unfortunately on some really bad teams. He was able to standout as a playmaking bright spot for Cleveland during some of the rough years.

Since he doesn’t yet have his diploma, Johnson is a student assistant instead of a graduate assistant. With this being the start of his coaching career, it’ll be interesting to see where Johnson can go with it. He is just 30 years old.
