One former Cleveland Browns assistant coach has been thrown into the fire with an NFC team.

Chris Tabor coached special teams from 2011-17 with the Browns and is now the interim head coach with the Carolina Panthers. Tabor is in his first season with Carolina as the special teams coordinator.

With Frank Reich being fired, the Panthers went with a veteran coach who they believed could at least hold things down until the end of the season.

As a head coach, Tabor has experience at only the NAIA level, when he led Culver-Stockton during the 2001 season.

At 52 years old, Tabor is getting his first chance to lead an NFL team, even if it is for just a few weeks.

Panthers are in a tough spot with a poor roster and no first-round pick. Bryce Young hasn’t shown a ton as a rookie quarterback that was picked No. 1 overall. Bringing in a top coaching target isn’t likely to happen in Carolina.

Nonetheless, it’s cool to see Tabor get a shot as the interim. He has plenty of experience in the NFL and as a college coach dating back to 1993.
