Major outlet predicts Cleveland Browns to sign another AFC North team’s offensive weapon as a free agent in March
The Browns have free agency coming up and they’re predicted to make a big signing come March.
The Cleveland Browns and veteran TE David Njoku are going in a different direction with free agency arriving in March. It’s the end of an era for the former 2017 first-round pick in Cleveland.
Cleveland selected Harold Fannin Jr. in the third round of last year’s draft and he’s the future at the position for the Browns. With Njoku leaving in free agency, the Browns will need to add tight end depth.
Expect the Browns to sign a free-agent tight end come March. New head coach Todd Monken loves multiple-tight-end sets, so he’ll need his pick at the position.
The Browns are predicted to sign Baltimore Ravens TE Isaiah Likely
Greg Auman of Fox has the Browns signing Ravens’ impending free agent TE Isaiah Likely. Likely is set to be a free agent for the first time after four seasons with Baltimore. Likely has been the second tight end to Mark Andrews in Baltimore, and a real weapon in the passing game.
“Likely, 25, had 11 touchdowns between 2023-24 but dropped off this past season, getting 27 catches for 307 yards and a single touchdown,” Auman wrote. “Baltimore opted to extend Mark Andrews, so their investment in the position was there, but Likely has good opportunities if he wants to sign elsewhere. He could follow John Harbaugh to the Giants or former Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken to the Browns, and he might want a one-year deal ($8 million or so) for the chance to reset himself as a top-of-market free agent in 2027.”
Likely was a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Coastal Carolina. The 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end has recorded at least 300 receiving yards in his first four seasons. Likely is a field tight end who can be moved around and doesn’t necessarily play just in line. If the Browns were to make this signing, they’d still need another blocking tight end to join Fannin and Likely.
With 15 touchdowns over the last four seasons, Likely is a real threat athletically once he gets the football in his hands. Cleveland needs more of these kinds of players who can beat defenses, players whom defenses have to gameplan for.
A signing of Likely would be him following an offensive coordinator he’s been comfortable with. Returning to Baltimore or following John Harbaugh could be in play for Likely as well. Don’t be surprised if Cleveland inquires about this one.
