Packers HC Matt LaFleur made an honest admission about the Browns that may have woke the rest of the NFL up about Cleveland

The Packers sort of looked past the Browns in a way.

The Cleveland Browns have a clear identity for the 2025 season and that is leaning on a tough, physical defense that is led by a talented front. Cleveland may just have the best defensive line in football and it sure looked like that in their 13-10 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. The Browns were able to sack Packers QB Jordan Love five times and it wasn’t just Myles Garrett doing the damage. Jim Schwartz has his unit playing at a high level and the Packers agreed with that after the game.

Packers’ Matt LaFleur admits he underestimated the Browns’ defensive front

“Those other guys feasted, and they had a good day,” LaFleur said on Monday, a day after the game. “I knew that D-line was pretty good, probably underestimated them to some level, like the other guys. Obviously, Myles, we all know he’s well respected across the league. But all of those other guys, those interior guys were a problem. They just had a great jump off the ball.”

Garrett had a half sack for the Browns to go along with four pressures on Love against the Packers and the rest of the defensive line got into the action too. Maliek Collins put together his second straight elite game and had 1.5 sacks, while Alex Wright recorded his first sack of the season for the Browns. Rookie DT Mason Graham had four pressures and nearly had his first sack for the Browns. Cleveland’s front along with LB Carson Schwesinger showed up in the sack stat line for Cleveland.

Cleveland’s offense is struggling badly with just 15.3 points per game, which is 30th in the league through three weeks. The Browns know they’re a team that has to lean on their defense, as mentioned that is their identity. Cleveland has to take full advantage of all scoring opportunities, as shown in the kicking game by K Andre Szmyt against the Packers. The run game with Quinshon Judkins looked promising the last two games and if the Browns can build off of that it’ll mean big things for them as a team.

LaFleur’s comments will be heard around the league and teams aren’t going to be caught sleeping going into a game against the Browns. That wasn’t what happened with the Packers, Cleveland simply outplayed them, but the point still stands. Cleveland’s defense is back to looking like its 2023 form and the rest of the league is finding that out. Week 4 will have the Browns on the road against a very good Detroit Lions team and the Browns’ defense will have to travel well for this one if they want to pull another upset.
