Cleveland Browns lost much more than just a game with latest injury update after losing to Patriots
Week 8 was a disaster for the Browns and now there are major questions heading into the bye week.
Week 8 was disastrous all around for the Cleveland Browns — a complete 180-degree turn from what they looked like a week ago against the Miami Dolphins. Cleveland enters its bye week with a 2-6 record after falling to the New England Patriots 32-13.
The Browns trailed just 9-7 at halftime, but things quickly unraveled. New England looked like a team that made effective adjustments, while the Browns looked like the same team that started the game.
The loss itself was bad enough, but what could be coming on the injury front might make things even worse. It was a rough day all around for Cleveland, and the injuries were a part of that.
Browns awaiting testing on LB Carson Schwesinger
LB Carson Schwesinger had another strong day for the Browns — a theme of his impressive rookie season. The second-round pick recorded his first interception of the year, along with five tackles. Unfortunately, he went down with an ankle injury in the fourth quarter that didn’t look good. The UCLA product was rolled up on and struggled to walk off the field. The team will learn more on Monday, as the bye week begins.
“Carson has an ankle injury; [we] don’t have much more information on him than that,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said after the game. “We’ll get some imaging on that tomorrow.”
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, it is a high ankle sprain for the rookie linebacker that could sideline him for four to six weeks. Schwesinger leads the Browns with 60 tackles through the first eight games of his young career.
With Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah out for the season — and potentially beyond — Schwesinger has been a welcome addition. He looks every bit the part of a player poised for a long, accolade-filled career if this start is any indication. The Browns selected him with the No. 33 overall pick, and it appears they hit a home run.
Rookie running back Quinshon Judkins was ruled out of the game with a shoulder injury, and no update has been provided on his status. Cornerback Tyson Campbell also exited the game due to a concussion. It was an all-around bad day for the Browns, both with the loss and the injuries that came with it.
Cleveland has gotten strong linebacker play this year from Schwesinger and Devin Bush, but losing the rookie is a significant blow. Schwesinger wears the green dot as the defensive signal-caller, which speaks to the IQ and leadership he’s already shown.
“Obviously, we just didn’t do anything well enough today. Frustrated, but we’ll win as a team and lose as a team,” Stefanski said. “We’ll look at everything over the bye week and figure out a way to get this thing going with more than half our season left.”
