Browns’ Jimmy Haslam might have added salt to the wound of Jim Schwartz with his comment at Todd Monken’s introduction as head coach
Jimmy Haslam is clearly high on Todd Monken, but Jim Schwartz may not be a fan of his latest comment even if it’s the truth.
The Cleveland Browns had an important day on Tuesday with Todd Monken being introduced as the new head coach of the franchise.
Monken was one of three finalists for the job in Cleveland, and the veteran offensive mind was notably named as the head coach over defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
Since the Browns made that move, it’s been up in the air whether or not Schwartz will return.
Jimmy Haslam propping up Todd Monken is more salt in the wound of Jim Schwartz
Schwartz not getting the job upset him enough to reportedly tell folks in Berea that he was done. Packing up your office due to your feelings after not getting the job is awkward to come back from.
Browns owner Jimmy Haslam doubling down on Monken being the clear-cut guy isn’t going to be something that Schwartz is going to want to hear.
“I would say Todd was at the top of the list the entire time,” Haslam stated. “I think our search lasted 20 days and I’d say he was leading the pack or in the front pack the entire time, too.”
Haslam is of course just trying to prop up Monken during a time he is being introduced as the new head coach. On the flip side, it’s easy to see why this may not sit well with Schwartz, even if it’s true.
The expectation is that the majority of the defensive staff will return even if Schwartz does not. There’s a chance that both sides can mend things and move on like nothing ever happened, too. Schwartz is under contract for two more seasons with the Browns.
Until a decision comes from Schwartz on whether he wants to continue coaching in Cleveland or not, that’s going to be the talk of the town. It certainly was a good part of things on Tuesday during Monken’s introduction.
