Cleveland Browns could see their new running back as soon as Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans.

Don’t rule out newly signed but very familiar running back Kareem Hunt appearing in his first game on Sunday in Cleveland.

"I think there's a chance, but we have to see how this week plays out,” said head coach Kevin Stefanski.

Hunt signed a one-year deal with the Browns worth up to $4 million following the season-ending injury to running back Nick Chubb. Stefanski confirmed that Jerome Ford is the lead back going forward, so Hunt will be his backup.

No stranger to Cleveland, Hunt spent the last four seasons with the Browns and became a free agent following the 2022 season. Due to the unfortunate circumstance with Chubb, Cleveland wanted to go with a player who knows the system.

“I think it's a big deal,” said Stefnanski on Hunt’s familiarity with the offense. “When you add players that are free agents, oftentimes you need to ramp them up. In this case, he can pick up things very quickly."

Hunt worked out for Cleveland on Tuesday and the deal quickly came together. Hunt has stayed ready and has waited around for the right deal to allow him to return to the football field.

“He looked in good shape. There's football shape and there's working out to stay ready shape, but he looks to be in good shape,” Stefanski explained.

Cleveland hopes that Hunt can provide some help to the running back room behind the young back Ford. This could begin as soon as a few days from now.
