The biggest story around the NFL right now is the future status of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk and the Cleveland Browns have been floated as a landing spot. Other teams involved have been said to be the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers.
On Tuesday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski was asked about the Aiyuk reports as well as some general thoughts on his wide receiver room. The two-time Coach of the Year is happy with things at the position and answered the question as you would expect him to.
“I think we have a bunch of different types of skill sets in there and I think that’s important to have variety,” said Stefasnki. “I think Coach (Chad) O’Shea and Coach (Callie) Brownson do a great job with that group. They’re working hard, but it’s a good mix of young guys, older guys. You have some speed, you have ability to separate those type of things. I think there’s some really good traits in there.”
Amari Cooper and the Browns figured out his contract, so he is easy to lead the position for at least this season. Cooper has been mentioned in trade talks but very well could be staying out after having the majority of his contract paid as a signing bonus for 2024. Stefanski was unwilling to answer much about the talks that have been had with Cooper since trade talks began.
“As you can imagine, any conversations I have with our guys I keep to ourselves, if you will,” Stefanski stated. “ We really focus on what’s going on in our building, not necessarily what’s going on outside the building.”
Cleveland is set to enter the season with Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore providing production behind Cooper and tight end David Njoku. Cedric Tillman and David Bell should be other guys that will have an impact on Cleveland.
At this time, no trade seems close for the Browns and it should be expected that one won’t happen between these two sides with how it currently feels. With that being said, Stefanski has good reason to feel strong about the guys that Cleveland currently has in the locker room.
