The Cleveland Browns ended their season yesterday with a win over the Cincinnati Bengals — and they won two straight games for the first time since 2023 to end the season. As a result of their 5-12 campaign this season, the Browns are making a major move for the franchise.

The Browns fire HC Kevin Stefanski following six years with the team

The Browns are moving on from two-time NFL Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski today, according to multiple sources. Cleveland made the playoffs twice with Stefanski, but the decline of the team and offense in the last couple of years necessitated a change.

After joining the Browns from the Minnesota Vikings, Stefanski won his first NFL Coach of the Year award in 2020 when Cleveland went 11-5, then again in 2023 after another 11-win campaign. However, the Browns’ decision to trade for quarterback Deshaun Watson ultimately backfired, and the team remains stuck in the same decades-long search: finding a true franchise quarterback.

While Stefanski isn’t solely to blame for Cleveland’s struggles, his firing reflects just how fractured things have become. The Browns’ offensive issues have persisted year after year, and they’ve lacked a clear identity since the 2022 season — the last time Nick Chubb was fully healthy. With Stefanski serving as the primary play-caller for most of his tenure (aside from a few games called by Ken Dorsey in 2024), much of the offensive stagnation falls on his shoulders.

Stefanski finishes his Browns’ career 45-56 overall with an 8-26 record over the last two seasons. Cleveland has had 11 coaches since 2000, and Stefanski’s six years are by far the longest a coach has lasted with the franchise in that time.

The search for a new head coach in Cleveland is underway.
