Browns HC Kevin Stefanski drops bold statement on where Shedeur Sanders stands after multiple turnovers in loss to Bears
The rookie fifth-round pick for Cleveland had three turnovers a week after he had four touchdowns against the Titans.
The Cleveland Browns are 3-11 after a 31-3 loss to the Chicago Bears in Week 15. Cleveland once again struggled mightily on offense, and the defense was a bit uncharacteristic today, giving up 361 total yards.
Cleveland had just 57 total yards in the first half and a single first down. On the other side, Chicago had 250 yards on offense and had no problem moving the ball on the Browns’ offense. From early on in this one, Cleveland looked uninterested, and Chicago controlled the game throughout.
Shedeur Sanders’ play against the Bears was the opposite of last week’s effort against the Titans
Sanders had four touchdowns and 364 yards passing against the Titans last week. Fast forward to this week, and Sanders threw three interceptions against the Bears and finished 18-of-35 passing for 177 yards and no touchdowns. The three points scored by the Browns on Sunday are somehow a season low for the NFL’s worst offense. Cleveland’s head coach, Kevin Stefanski, commented on where Sanders stands.
“I’m obviously thinking about just this game and those types of things. He’s a young player that is making progress, and I see it in games. I get to see it in practice. There’s going to be ups and downs to young players, particularly, the quarterback position.”
With three games left and the same number of wins as they finished last year, the Browns may just match that total this season. Cleveland has two first-round picks next April, and one of them is likely to be spent on a quarterback. While Sanders has shown flashes, he’s also shown why he was a fifth-round pick.
The same issues that were there for Sanders coming into the league are still there. The rookie quarterback was sacked five times by the Bears, and multiple times he held onto the ball too long, one of his biggest flaws.
Cleveland is heading for a top-five pick, but may have to get to No. 1 overall if it wants to take the player who is regarded as the top QB coming out, Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza.
Cleveland has games against the Buffalo Bills, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Cincinnati Bengals remaining to finish the season. Jobs are absolutely on the line for this regimen through this final stretch.
