The Cleveland Browns fired Kevin Stefanski the day after their season ended and he quickly rebounded by landing with the Atlanta Falcons.

Cleveland has had a long drawn-out process to find a new head coach, and it should be in its final hours. The Browns are expected to name a head coach soon after wrapping up second interviews.

Meanwhile, Stefanski just made a decision in Atlanta that is going to catch some attention.

Kevin Stefanski gives Falcons play-calling duties to former Browns OC Tommy Rees

Tommy Rees spent two years with the teams as a tight ends coaching then as the offensive coordinator. Rees was taken to Atlanta with Stefanski from the Browns staff, though it’s likely that Rees wouldn’t have stuck around already.

Stefanski made the decision known on Monday that he would be giving Rees the offensive play-calling duties to Rees for 2026.

Rees now gets to call plays for an offense that features some dangerous weapons like Bijan Robinson and Drake London. The Falcons could have Kyle Pitts back before free agency as well. Atlanta’s success will rely on whether or not Michael Penix can be a long-term answer at quarterback.

With Stefanski taking a new job and getting a fresh start, there was a belief that he could get back to calling plays. The former Browns head coach gave up play-calling duties in 2024 to Ken Dorsey, then again during the 2025 season to Rees.

Cleveland’s coaching staff is in transition now with a hire coming anytime. Some names will stay and some will go. One who’s already left was Rees and he’s getting some major responsibility already at his new home.
