The Cleveland Browns’ offensive line had a solid performance overall in the season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals for the most part. Cleveland did have to dip into its depth early when RT Jack Conklin exited after just 20 plays due to an eye injury. LT Dawand Jones may have had the roughest outing, but even he didn’t surrender a credited sack.
Game 1 reinforced that the Browns are likely going to rely heavily on their depth this season. Whether it comes from the active roster or the practice squad, the last couple of seasons have shown that reinforcements are always needed along the offensive line. Unfortunately for Cleveland, they just lost one of those depth pieces.
Cleveland Browns lose OL Cole Strange to the Miami Dolphins
Every NFL team can protect four of its practice squad players each week. The unprotected ones are at risk of being poached, and that’s exactly what happened with Cole Strange. The Miami Dolphins signed Strange to their active roster off Cleveland’s practice squad. The Browns had added him at the end of August after cutdowns, when the New England Patriots moved on from him.
Strange lasted only three seasons with the Patriots despite being a former first-round pick out of Chattanooga. The guard, who can also play some center, has started 29 of the 30 career games he’s played. He appeared in just three games in 2024 with New England before falling out of favor under new head coach Mike Vrabel.
Garrett Dellinger is now the only other interior offensive lineman on Cleveland’s practice squad. The Browns also made the interesting decision to keep second-year guard Zak Zinter inactive in Week 1 against the Bengals, showing where he currently sits on the depth chart. Teven Jenkins is the top backup guard on the 53-man roster.
Losing Strange isn’t a devastating blow, but it does thin out a position group where the Browns already lack much depth behind starters Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller.

Browns WR Jerry Jeudy makes major statement on what the disappointing loss to the Bengals means to Cleveland
Week 1 was a gut-punch loss for the Cleveland Browns because of how it unfolded against the Cincinnati Bengals. Cleveland fell 17-16 in a game where they outgained Cincinnati 327-141 in total yardage. Miscues in the form of dropped passes, turnovers, and missed kicks proved disastrous, leaving the Browns 0-1 to start the season. Cleveland’s […]
