The Cleveland Cavaliers took care of business in the opening round of the NBA playoffs. Cleveland took care of the Miami Heat with a clean 4-0 sweep.

Perhaps the most impressive part of the lopsided sweep for the Cavs was that they played the two road games without one of their best players.

G Darius Garland was unable to suit up for Game 3 or Game 4 after scoring a combined 48 points in the first two games. Garland is dealing with a toe injury that will have him up in the air for the start of the series against the Indiana Pacers. Following the series against Miami, one member of the Heat thought the Cavs were better off without Garland.

“They look like a better team without Garland on the floor,” Miami F Kyle Anderson said after Game 4 in Miami. “Now I don’t know the numbers or anything, but I think it played more into their favor once Garland wasn’t on the floor for them. They were able to dictate the tempo and get more stops on defense and it was hard for us to score.”

The Cavs opted to move Donovan Mitchell to point guard and Sam Merrill started at the two guard. As he has been all season, Ty Jerome stepped up big in the absence of Garland. Cleveland won the final two games by scores of 124-87 and 138-83. Doing that without their All-Star guard makes it more impressive.

Next up for the Cavs is the high-scoring Pacers, who just eliminated the Milwaukee Bucks in five games. The Cavs need to have Garland back soon because the Pacers have quite the creator themselves with Tyrese Haliburton.
