In the NFL, former Heisman winner Johnny Manziel did not last long with the Cleveland Browns for reasons that are obvious.
Recently, it has become more clear why Manziel did not have a long stay in the NFL. Manziel admitted to not watching film in the Netflix documentary Untold.
In a recent appearance on The Pivot Podcast, Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that Manziel did indeed not watch any tape.
“I was there and I was getting the reports of zero, that was real,” said McDaniel.
Back in 2014, McDaniel coached wide receivers with the Browns, which was the same staff that had an offensive coordinator by the name of Kyle Shanahan. It lasted just one season before Shanahan and his staff walked out.
“I tried to stay in my lane at that time. It was kind of a hairy situation,” explained McDaniel. “It’s up in the air whether there is a congruence of thought in that direction. So we already knew what it was, at that time it was like ‘see’.”
Manziel would go on to play in 14 games over two seasons with the Browns. He was in over his head and it never worked out on or off the field. His not-watching tape habits certainly affected his on-field part of things.
Baker Mayfield says he is ‘confused’ why he’s not the Browns quarterback
Quite the statement from the former Browns quarterback.
