The Cleveland Browns dropped their second of three straight games against the NFC North in Week 4 when they visited the Detroit Lions. Cleveland trailed 20-7 at halftime in the 34-10 loss that got out of hand late for the Browns. Cleveland’s offense continues to hold it back, and that was the case against an NFC contender in Detroit. Cleveland’s defense is still playing at a high level, and the Detroit offense had to work for everything it earned on Sunday afternoon.

Myles Garrett’s comments after the game are an example of why his teammates love him

“It’s all disappointing,” Garrett said of the loss to the Lions. “Losing is disappointing. Wherever they sit the ball down, you’ve got to play. At the end of the day, you can’t point the finger at anyone.”

It would be easy to point blame at Cleveland’s offense after the Browns held Detroit to 277 yards of offense in Week 4 and didn’t allow a 200-yard passing day for Jared Goff or a 100-yard running day for either of their running backs. Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs did real damage with 91 yards on the ground, but Cleveland’s defense still played as well as you could ask against Detroit.

Special teams blunders and two interceptions from Browns QB Joe Flacco put the Cleveland defense in a rough position on numerous occasions.

Cleveland didn’t record a sack on Sunday, but it was in the backfield often, impacting Goff and the Lions’ passing game. Goff went 16-of-27 for 168 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception against the Browns’ defense. Denzel Ward got his first interception of the season, and that makes it two games in a row that the Browns’ defense has forced a turnover.

Still, the Browns won’t have a chance against good teams like Detroit with the offensive struggles and self-inflicted errors that took place in Week 4. Week 5 in London gets no easier with the Minnesota Vikings, and it’ll be another game the Browns will have to try to prove themselves offensively.
