Browns’ Myles Garrett sent an indirect message to Steelers’ T.J. Watt after Cleveland’s win over Pittsburgh

The Cleveland Browns have not had a whole lot to celebrate this season. Heading into last night’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Browns were carrying a 2-8 record.
The Browns walked away with their best moment of the season perhaps in the 24-19 win. Anytime the Browns beat the Steelers, it is special to the city of Cleveland. It meant a little bit more with Nick Chubb scoring two touchdowns in his first game against Pittsburgh since his serious knee injury last year.
Still, the player that should be talked about the most from Thursday night was Myles Garrett. He appeared to be a man on a mission and even made a bold statement after the game.
“Edge defender one, edge one, to Defensive Player of the Year, I’m the guy. That runs through me,” Garrett said on the Amazon Prime broadcast after the win. “There is no other person being defended as I am or schemed or played against like I am. It just goes to show, you can throw it out the window, I’m going to find a way.”
Garrett let his play back him up on Thursday night. The star pass rusher recorded three sacks and a forced fumble, all of which came in the first half. It was the kind of game that is talked about after the season when looking back and realizing how special it was.
Going up against T.J. Watt who was openly unhappy last year when Garrett won Defensive Player of the Year, Garrett appeared to have some extra motivation. It is normally uncharacteristic for Garrett to come out and say he is the best like that, but he truly believes that, and he’s backed it up.
Watt and the Steelers may have the better record at 8-3 now, but Garrett outperformed Watt with ease in Week 12. Watt did not finish with a sack and didn’t really have an impact on the game.
According to Next Gen Stats, Watt had just one pressure on 28 rushes while being double-teamed three times. Garrett had himself eight pressures to go along with the three sacks.
Now, Garrett is up to 10 sacks on the season. It was his second three-sack game this year and he appears to have made the statement he had hoped for.
“I wanted to make it known that I am the No. 1 edge defender. That was the statement I was intending to make and I think I made it.”
Steelers’ George Pickens threw major shade at the Browns in a predictable way after Cleveland beat Pittsburgh
The Browns got the last laugh here.
