There is no other way to put it than to say this NFL season has been a disaster for the Cleveland Browns. To be sitting at 1-4 on the season with the opening schedule they had is the worst of outcomes.
After losing their third straight game, the Browns look like a team that is spiraling downward and heading toward a top-10 pick. It has been that bad.
Following the lopsided loss to the Washington Commanders in Week 5, superstar defensive end Myles Garrett had a message for the team.
"We've talked enough over the last few weeks. There's been a lot of conversation (about the) offense, defense, from the defensive meeting room,” explained Garrett. “We've had enough talk. Just go out there and do your job. Individually and as a team."
As a leader of the team, Garrett saying this is notable. Every leader is different and leads in a different way. Perhaps Garrett calling out his team in a correct way like he did can help the cause.
Cleveland is scoring just 15.8 points per game and that is 30th in the NFL. The 270 yards that Cleveland getting per game ranks very last in the league. Cleveland isn’t running the rock well and they certainly aren’t passing it well.
The defense is not as good as it was last year. Sure, the Browns’ defense is having a tough time with being on the field more due to the offense, but they’re still not as good as they were last year.
From the coaching all the way down, the Browns are failing this year. There are things that general manager Andrew Berry likely wishes he would have done differently.
There is no time to wait around for it to fix itself. Cleveland needs to get this right quick or it could get uglier, jobs could be lost, and things could go back to the old way. The schedule is not going to get any easier and the Browns can’t waste any time. Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles will be big.
