The Cleveland Browns did what many folks were waiting for in Week 12: they gave Shedeur Sanders a chance to start. Sanders had a full week of practice with the starters and helped lead the Browns to a 24-10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Of course, the defense once again set the tone for Cleveland. Raiders QB Geno Smith was sacked 10 times, with Myles Garrett recording three of those himself. Still, Sanders elevated the offense with explosive plays that have been missing for much of the season. One of those plays even caught Garrett’s attention.

Sanders’ first big play of the day was a 52-yard bomb to undrafted rookie WR Isaiah Bond. The rookie fifth-round quarterback rolled out of the pocket and launched a strike downfield off an uneven platform. That play set up one of Quinshon Judkins’ two touchdowns.

“There’s not many guys in the league that can make that throw,” Garrett said after the game. “That was a hell of a throw. I hope he can continue to grow and develop from making plays like that and take it from there.”

Sanders finished with 209 passing yards while completing 11-of-20 passes for a touchdown and an interception. The popular rookie connected with Dylan Sampson on a 66-yard touchdown screen that served as the nail in the coffin for the Browns. While much of the production came after the catch, Sanders pushed the ball down the field in a way Cleveland hasn’t seen this season.

Garrett didn’t accidentally come out with that kind of praise. Kevin Stefanski hasn’t named a starting quarterback for next week, with Dillon Gabriel likely returning, but it would be a surprise if he went away from Sanders following a win. Up next for the Browns is a home game against the San Francisco 49ers.
