Myles Garrett catches a hilarious stray from Rams WR Puka Nacua due to how Giannis Antetokounmpo’s trade deadline situation played out in the NBA
Myles Garrett has had some rocky moments with the Cleveland Browns and Puka Nacua found a chance to take a jab at just that.
Myles Garrett won his second NFL Defensive Player of the Year award on Thursday night — and it marked another special moment in the Cleveland Browns superstar’s career.
Garrett winning his second DPOY in three years was a special feat coming off a season with 23.5 sacks. The only way to cap off such a season was for him to win the award.
It would have been much better if the Browns’ record weren’t 5-12, and the losing ways are a reason why Garrett and Cleveland haven’t always been on the best of terms.
Myles Garrett’s trade request to the Browns catches stray from Puka Nacua
Last offseason Garrett requested a trade away from the Browns because he wanted to go somewhere he could be a more consistent winner. The trade didn’t end up happening and the Browns never even entertained it.
Things were cleared up with Garret reforming an extension paying him $40 million a year, and he followed it up with another DPOY campaign. Still, Los Angeles Rams WR Puka Nacua compared Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo’s situation to Garrett’s with how it ended.
“It’s like him and Myles Garrett, they’re like ‘Oh, I don’t want to be here.’ And then, ‘Hey, look, I’m back, guys’,” Nacua said on The Pat McAfee Show.
Garrett’s situation and the one with Antetokounmpo couldn’t be more different. Antetokounmpo was thought to be a trade candidate at the deadline in the NBA, while Garrett was trying to get the Browns to make a blockbuster move. The connection here is that Jimmy and Dee Haslam are majority owners of the Bucks, just like they are with the Browns.
Two great players in their respective sports though Antetokounmpo has one championship already, while Garrett has just one playoff win in nine seasons.
As far as Nacua’s comment goes, it’s just another remark that fits who he has become off the football field.
