Losing the way that the Cleveland Browns did in Week 2 against the Baltimore Ravens is a tough pill to swallow. Cleveland was on the wrong end of a 41-17 game but only trailed 10-3 at halftime against the Ravens. Everything that could have gone wrong in the second half for the Browns pretty much did in their second straight AFC North game to begin the season.
Cleveland dropped their season opener to the Bengals by just a point, and the defense kept them in it against the Ravens through the first half. But the Browns’ offense never gave them much of a chance in this one, and special teams didn’t help. Two turnovers and a blocked punt are a recipe for disaster, and that’s exactly what Cleveland put out there in Week 2. Joe Flacco threw an interception and lost a fumble on a day he went 25-of-45 passing against his old team.

Myles Garrett doesn’t hold back after Browns lose to the Ravens

“Sh** [is] embarrassing,” Garrett said after the game. “We got to be better on defense. We got to be better as a team. They slowly chipped away and we did a solid job holding them to three when we could, and then eventually the dam broke and they just did whatever they want, and we have to continue to play a 60-minute game.”

Garrett still made his presence felt with a couple of tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks against the Ravens. The former Defensive Player of the Year already has 3.5 sacks through two games and is off to a quick start overall. Jim Schwartz’s defense is rallying around Garrett for the most part and played well until late. But Denzel Ward exiting with an injury and forcing Cam Mitchell outside hurt the Browns, and that became a problem in the fourth quarter.

Still, the Browns held the Ravens to just 242 total yards while gaining 322 themselves. The difference came down to giveaways: short fields from turnovers, a defensive touchdown, and a blocked punt. Without those miscues, Cleveland likely would have been in the game. But this team doesn’t have a large margin for error, and that was obvious in Week 2. Week 3 doesn’t get any easier, as the Browns will host a strong Green Bay Packers team on Sunday. The Packers bring a tough defense and a capable quarterback in Jordan Love. If the Browns and Garrett want to bounce back, they’ll need a complete turnaround from what we’ve seen offensively through the first two weeks.
