Expectations are real for the Cleveland Browns this year and even the quiet guy in the room has expectations for his team this season.
“I expect us to hopefully play well, go out and execute, make small or no mistakes at all, to go out there and play together,” Nick Chubb said during his media availability on Wednesday.
If the Browns do those things that seem simple but are often difficult to do consistently, they’ll put plenty of wins together this season.
Chubb had a career year last year when he tumbled for 1,525 yards on the ground and 12 touchdowns. That was without quarterback Deshaun Watson for 11 games while he served his suspension. The All-Pro running back believes that Watson will add a new task for defenses, perhaps opening up the running game more.
“I think so. I mean, I guess it’s hard to you know, assume we’re just going to run the ball with me or another running back,” Chubb explained. “You have to respect Watson, his legs, and his arm in RPO situation.”
The option is something the Browns have never really deployed but it has been in their playbook. That could change this season, now that Watson has had a full offseason in the system and everyone is more comfortable.
“It’s always been something we’ve had in our playbook but we’ve never done it in a game situation so we’ll see how it goes,” Chubb said about the option.
On paper, this is the best team that Chubb has been a part of in the NFL. Cleveland will have to go out and prove that they’re an improved team and one that can reach the playoffs, perhaps more.
“I think just putting it all together, coming out here. Well, we’ve always had weapons since I’ve been here, and I think just the biggest part is us playing together, playing as one, playing as a team, and everyone playing to their best potential.”
Cleveland starts the season by hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday at 1 p.m., It’ll be their first chance to show the kind of team they are.
