If you would have said at the beginning of the season that Joe Flacco would start a game for the Cleveland Browns, people would think you’re crazy.

It’s likely happening in Week 13 with rookie QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson in protocol and Flacco now the Browns backup from the practice squad. ESPN’s Pat McAfee had good things to say about the new-look Browns on The Pat McAfee Show.

“If Joe Flacco is the starting quarterback in 2023 for the Cleveland Browns, that’s must-watch and I’m pumped up for it,” McAfee said on Wednesday’s show.

McAfee pointed out the Browns’ defense and how it would allow the quarterback to essentially not be the hero. Flacco could come in and operate the offense with an occasional play action off of the successful run game. He’s a believer that the veteran quarterback is still good enough to do just that.

Cleveland has had the NFL’s best defense in 2023 and they’ll need to do that behind Myles Garrett and the system that Jim Schwartz has implemented.

Flacco, 38-years-old, is set to play in his first game of the 2023 season. Cleveland hopes to stay in the mix for the playoffs, where they currently sit as a wildcard team.

Browns take on the Rams at 4:25 p.m. ET where they’ll try to move to 8-4. If the Browns can win, it’ll be their fourth win with a different quarterback this season.
