The Cleveland Browns finally got rookie running back Quinshon Judkins under contract on a fully guaranteed four-year deal. With the former Ohio State Buckeyes star now signed, his NFL debut could be right around the corner. Judkins is set to meet with the league today under its Personal Conduct Policy and the door is open to possibly playing next week.

Quinshon Judkins could play for the Cleveland Browns next week against the Baltimore Ravens

Cleveland’s rookie running back is not expected to be placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List while the NFL investigates around a domestic violence charge that was not pursued in Florida last month. Judkins is still awaiting word on whether he will face a suspension, but that decision may not come before the Browns’ Week 2 matchup against the Ravens.

The Browns were without Judkins throughout training camp, which is hardly ideal for a rookie trying to adjust to the NFL. Now cleared to practice with the team, whether he plays next week will likely depend on how well he maintained his conditioning and how quickly he gets comfortable in the offense. Cleveland opens its season today against the Cincinnati Bengals, but its No. 36 overall pick will not be on the field.

For now, Jerome Ford and rookie Dylan Sampson will handle the backfield duties. Still, the Browns see the future of the position in Judkins and Sampson. If all goes smoothly, Judkins’ NFL debut could be just a week away—an encouraging development given how uncertain the situation appeared not long ago.
