The Cleveland Browns are back at square No. 1 when it comes to finding their franchise quarterback. Cleveland took a big swing for Deshaun Watson a few years ago and it has proven to not be a success.
After another season with a significant injury, the Browns have to move on even if Watson is still on the team. Cleveland is likely to sign a veteran and draft a quarterback for their 2025 roster.
Cleveland has promoted a new offensive coordinator, Tommy Rees, who has a past working with one of the top quarterbacks in this draft process. Prior to Rees coming to Cleveland last season, he spent a year as the offensive coordinator at Alabama.
“Coach Rees gave me an opportunity to expand my knowledge with the game of football. I was a first-year starter last season in 2023, and he was the first OC that season that I had as being a first-year starter,” Alabama QB Jalen Milroe explained on Monday at the Senior Bowl. “And for me, the amount of knowledge I've learned from him, number one was him playing the position, number two with him coaching, I've gained so much.”
Milroe’s best season in college came in 2023 when he threw 23 touchdowns to six interceptions and completed 66 percent of his passes for 2,834 yards. Milroe added 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground that season.
If the Browns were to take Milroe, it would likely be with pick No. 33, unless they have to move up slightly to secure him. Sure, Mileroe is a bit of a raw prospect who took a step back in 2024. Still, Milroe has some big-time QB traits that would make him an exciting pick. If the Browns opt to go this route, they could go with the best player available with their first pick.
Until draft time rolls around, Rees’ connection with Milroe is going to be a talking point that comes up when speaking about what Cleveland will do at quarterback.
