Cleveland Browns’ latest update on the trade market could mean bad news around RB Quinshon Judkins
The Browns have already made one trade this week and they may not be done.
The Cleveland Browns made their first trade of training camp on Wednesday, sending defensive tackle Jowon Briggs to the New York Jets in exchange for a sixth-round pick.
Cleveland may not be done dealing since several other trades could realistically happen in the coming days, whether that means adding talent or moving on from a player.
The Browns are among the teams interested in acquiring help at running back, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.
The Quinshon Judkins situation continues to linger
Cleveland still has not signed Judkins following his no-billed domestic violence charge in Florida. The team could be waiting for the league to finish its investigation, which could impact contract negotiations. Notably, the players drafted around Judkins at No. 36 overall in the second round all received fully guaranteed contracts.
For now, the Browns are set to enter the season with Jerome Ford and Tennessee rookie Dylan Sampson as their top backs. Judkins is expected to be the featured option at some point, but that depends on when Cleveland can officially get him on the field. Behind Ford and Sampson, Pierre Strong Jr., Ahmani Marshall, Trayveon Williams, and Tia Taua are battling for the third spot.
Cleveland’s interest in a running back could mean the team is bracing for a lengthy suspension for Judkins, or simply that it wants to strengthen the group around him. One name to watch is Washington Commanders running back Brian Robinson, who is reportedly on the trade block.
If the Browns choose not to pursue a trade, don’t be surprised if they scoop up a running back off waivers next week following roster cutdowns.
