How will Deshaun Watson start the 2023 season?
How Watson starts the season could be a big confidence boost, or it could cause some worry. If Watson shows no signs of the rust from last season, the Browns will like their chances in this one.
Is the kicker problem fixed?
Cleveland hopes their kicking woes are in the past after moving on from Cade York. It will be Dustin Hopkins’ first game as a member of the Browns. These divisional games very well could come down to a kick. Whether or not Hopkins can be that guy for the Browns could be seen rather quickly.
Will Cleveland keep Ja’Marr Chase in check?
Chase has done some talking before the game, as have the Browns. It’s normal stuff for two teams in the same division. If Chase breaks a bunch of big plays off, things could get ugly. If Cleveland can limit Chase, they’ll be in good shape.
3 Players to watch
- CB Denzel Ward: Late in the week, the Browns were able to get Ward cleared from the concussion protocol. He will have his hands full matching up with Chase of the Bengals for the majority of the game. It’s worth watching if Ward is himself out there, he should be. In his career so far, Ward has three interceptions against the Bengals.
- DE Myles Garrett: Garrett can be a game-wrecker and he’s done his fair share of damage against the Bengals. Joe Burrow is coming off a calf injury and may be 100 percent. However, Cleveland needs him to prove that, and no better way than pressure. Garrett averages 1.2 sacks a game against the Bengals, expect him to get in the backfield.
- QB Deshaun Watson: As Watson goes this year, the Browns will go. The team’s success rides on whether or not Watson can return to his former self. As mentioned, how Watson comes out will be vital.
