Commanders’ standout player had early Christmas gift stolen after being an NFC Pro Bowl roster snub, but he will be rewarded soon

Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil was one of the biggest Pro Bowl snubs after being a top player at his position despite an awful team season. He will still be rewarded after the season with a new contract, though.

The Washington Commanders have had a nightmare of a season, filled with injuries and many losses, but there have been some standouts that should be rewarded.

Despite being 4-11, there have been some players who have played like the Super Bowl was on the line. Individual performances should still be rewarded, no matter how bad the season has been. That’s what the Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors are for.

Laremy Tunsil has easily been the best player on the entire team this season, and he was snubbed from a Pro Bowl on the NFC roster despite being one of the best at his position in the league.

Laremy Tunsil was snubbed from the Pro Bowl roster after a standout season

Tunsil has been the brightest spot of the roster this season and is well worth the picks that were traded to get him in the offseason in a trade with the Houston Texans. There are a lot of great offensive tackles in the NFC, but Tunsil has been the best, and it’s not even close. Penei Sewell, Trent Williams, and Tristan Wirfs were all selected to represent the NFC, and Tunsil has been better than all three of them this season.

Here’s a comparison of how much better Tunsil has been compared to the three selected for the NFC roster, with stats provided by PFF.

Tristan Wirfs22284.6

Laremy Tunsil has also improved as a run blocker in a big way

Tunsil was always known as a top pass blocker, but this season, he’s taken pride in creating lanes and sealing off the edge in the run game as well. He currently has the highest run-blocking grade of his 10-year career, and it pops out on film.

He will still be rewarded after the season

Despite being a Pro Bowl snub, Tunsil still has a chance at All-Pro honors for the first time in his career, and more importantly, a new contract. Tunsil had his contract reworked at the start of the season, which gave him more bonus money for this season, and also freed up $14.4 million in salary cap space for the team to work with. Reworking his contract and adding the three void years makes it a lot easier for the Commanders to extend him whenever they want to after the season.

He’s probably on pace to become the highest-paid left tackle, despite being 31 years old, and he could net $28-$30 million per year on a new deal. Tunsil is well worth every dollar as Jayden Daniels’ blindside protector, and also a mentor for the rookie right tackle, Josh Conerly Jr.
