The Washington Commanders are gearing up for their Week 1 matchup with the Arizona Cardinals and they've recruited an old friend in former 2015 draft pick, Jamison Crowder, to possibly help them start 1-0 on the season.

Per NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Commanders added Crowder to the practice squad on Wednesday after he was cut by the New York Giants last Tuesday.

Can Crowder work his way onto the Commanders' 53-man roster?

Crowder played in 56 games during his four seasons in Washington, but he wasn't around when Ron Rivera became head coach in 2020. There aren't any coaches left over from the 2015-2018 era, so Crowder doesn't have a ton of familiarity with new offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy's offense.

The Commanders also have their top-3 wideouts set in Terry McLaurin, Curtis Samuel, and Jahan Dotson. The offense also has seven receivers on the depth chart, currently.

Meaning, Crowder faces an uphill battle when it comes to cracking the 53. That doesn't mean all hope is lost, however. All it takes is one play for someone to go down and then Crowder will get his shot.

There's also a lot of uncertainty behind the aforementioned trio of wideouts. Crowder could outperform the guys in front of him and eventually push them off the roster, as well.

Crowder has appeared in 100 games over the course of his eight seasons in the NFL. He's recorded 415 receptions for 4,667 yards and 28 touchdowns on 624 targets.
