Dallas Cowboys pass on Ashton Jeanty in latest two-round 2025 NFL mock draft and it makes a lot of sense
Many Dallas Cowboys fans are already thinking about April and the 2025 NFL Draft more than they are about the team's upcoming showdown vs. the Washington Commanders or the thought of going to a game at AT&T Stadium. Many Dallas Cowboys fans are already thinking about April and the 2025 NFL Draft more than they are about the team's upcoming showdown vs. the Washington Commanders or the thought of going to a game at AT&T Stadium.
With a team that sits at 3-7 and with no Dak Prescott, who can blame them?
The good news is my colleagues here at A to Z Sports have Cowboys Nation covered with their latest two-round mock draft across the entire league. Below is the two predicted picks for Dallas as well as a brief breakdown of the selections.
Interestingly enough, A.J. Schulte, who put on the hat of the Cowboys GM for this exercise, passed on RB Ashton Jeanty, who has become the most common pick in many mock drafts across the NFL. Let's dive in.
9. Dallas Cowboys: Mason Graham, DL Michigan
The interior of Dallas's defensive line has been abysmal this season. To make matters worse, Osa Odighizuwa is a pending free agent, and the Cowboys might not retain him with the other mega contracts they have to consider. Mason Graham has an argument to be the best player in this class, and would transform their front instantly. – AJ Schulte
I understand why many people would prefer a dynamic playmaker like Jeanty but here's the thing: No matter who walks in as the new defensive coordinator next year, his defense will have no shot unless they address their defensive line. The pick makes sense.
Even if the Cowboys pay Osa, they'll need a big man in the trenches and that could be Graham.
41. Dallas Cowboys: Elic Ayomanor, WR Stanford
After addressing the defense in round one, it's time for Dallas to add more talent to its offense. Ayomanor's production hasn't been noteworthy this season, but that's an indictment of Stanford's offense more than his talent. Turn on the tape and you see an intriguing blend of size, speed, and route running ability that translate right away into the NFL. – AJ Schulte
The Cowboys already paid CeeDee Lamb but Brandin Cooks is headed to free agency and it seems unlikely he'll be re-signed. Additionally, Jalen Tolbert has been decent but far from being the best WR2 option for the Cowboys. And the recently-traded for Jonathan Mingo shouldn't keep Dallas from addressing their need for more reliable pass catchers.
The league is a long way from draft season but for the Cowboys? I don't blame fans for thinking about it in November.
