NFL insider reveals what it would take for the Dallas Cowboys to trade for Maxx Crosby
The Las Vegas Raiders don’t want to trade Maxx Crosby. But if they do, what would it take? A lot.
Maxx Crosby’s chances of getting traded depend on who you ask. But one thing is clear about the Las Vegas Raiders superstar: There’s a legit chance he is dealt. And with the Dallas Cowboys in need of an edge rusher, it’s only fair to wonder if they participate in the sweepstakes.
Based on the latest intel from ESPN’s NFL insider Adam Schefter, it will be tough.
Crosby will be costly
Speaking on 97.5 The Fanatic, a Philadelphia sports radio station, Schefter outlined what the Raiders would be looking for if Crosby is made available.
“I was told that the Raiders don’t want to trade (Crosby), and if they even contemplated it, then it would take a Micah Parsons type package,” Schefter told ESPN’s 97.5 The Fanatic.
If anyone knows what that entails, it’s Cowboys fans. In return for Parsons, Dallas received two first-round draft picks and Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark. To give up something similar for Crosby, is different, however. He will be 29 years old when the season starts.
Not to mention, while both are stars, Parsons is off to a historic career start. Parsons is a three-time first-team All-Pro since arriving at the NFL in 2021, while Crosby only has a couple of second-team All-Pro seasons since 2019.
“Do I think (the Raiders) are getting two firsts and a player? No,” Schefter added. “Do I think they want to trade him? No. Do I think he’ll be traded like A.J. Brown? That’ll change by the week. [. . .] Any deal involving Maxx Crosby, I would think for the Raiders to make that deal, would take a first-round pick at minimum.”
What could the Cowboys give up?
Frankly, I don’t think the Cowboys would give up two first-rounders and a Pro Bowl player for Crosby. But I could see them parting ways with at least one first-round pick. The question is what, or who, else would they throw in?
A recent idea I pitched was adding DT Osa Odighizuwa into the mix. The Raiders need a defensive tackle and the Cowboys already have a couple more in Quinnen Williams and Kenny Clark. Dallas’ biggest strength, defensive tackle, would take a hit, but they’d fill the void left by Parsons’ departure at EDGE.
But unless the Raiders lower their expectations from what Schefter laid out, I don’t think the Cowboys should go down this road. Not because they shouldn’t be aggressive, but because they’ll need many more starters to rebuild the defense. Adding Crosby would complicate that, as not only would they need to give up picks but pay up, too.
Crosby comes with $30 million in guaranteed salary and another $29 million in 2027 that vests to fully guaranteed in March 13.
I wouldn’t bet on Dallas trading for Crosby
I believe the Cowboys will be more active in free agency than usual, mostly out of need. But even if Jerry Jones shows he means it when he says he’s incentivized to “bust the budget,” I expect that to show in quantity, not in a big-time splash.
Expect multiple free agency signings, but Crosby is a long shot.
