Many were surprised when Bill Belichick made the jump to college football so quickly. With many NFL head coaching jobs set to open, people figured he would give the coaching cycle another go.
But instead, he was offered the job at the University of North Carolina and immediately took it.
However, when the Dallas Cowboys and Mike McCarthy parted ways because they couldn't agree on the length of a new contract, many thought that Belichick would be back in the NFL in no time.
It's well known that he has a very good relationship with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, so it seemed like the perfect fit.
But someone who made the move to UNC with Belichick has decided to set the record straight on all these rumors.
"Bill is recruiting in DC today and Baltimore tomorrow. His focus is on North Carolina football, hiring staff members and developing the team. The NFL isn't a option so please stop making it one. Thank you," Tar Heels general manager Michael Lombardi posted on X formerly known as Twitter.
This was in response to a post by CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones saying that Belichick does not have a signed contract at UNC which means there is a gray area surrounding his $10 million buyout if he were to return to the NFL.
As of now, the Cowboys are expected to interview former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh, Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, and Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier,
And for Belichick, it seems he will remain in Chapel Hill.
