A to Z Sports recently put together eight NFL Draft experts to run a three-round NFL Mock Draft with thoughts on each player selected. That includes the Dallas Cowboys, who are currently projected to pick 14th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft after going on a 3-1 run over their last four games.

Most of this year's mocks have the Cowboys tied to Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty. While the Heisman runner-up is truly an amazing talent, I was excited at the prospect of a unique pick in the latest mock, with fellow writer Tyler Forness putting on the hat of Cowboys GM for this exercise.

In the first round, he took a replacement to DeMarvion Overshown. Though linebacker wasn't considered a big need before the loss of a huge talent like him, which could drag on through all of 2025, it's one of the top needs on the team now.

Let's dive in into Forness' picks and I'll be adding my Cowboys POV takes along the way.

Round 1, Pick No. 14: Jalon Walker, LB/EDGE, Georgia

The injury to DeMarvion Overshown exposed linebacker as a major need. Plus, the Cowboys lack depth at edge rusher. Hit two birds with one stone here by taking Walker, who can do a little bit of both. – Tyler Forness

The take: There's no question Mike Zimmer loves a versatile linebacker who can also rush the passer. Assuming the plan is to keep the Cowboys defensive coordinator around for 2025, Walker makes plenty of sense. Marist Liufau is looking like a great option at middle linebacker.

Paired with Walker, Dallas could have a strong LB room once again while holding out hope that Overshown comes back strong someday, be it late 2025 or 2026.

Round 2, Pick No. 45: Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina

The Cowboys didn't take Ashton Jeanty in the first round for a versatile defender in Jalon Walker but they still get an excellent back in Hampton. He has the size, speed, and physicality to be a three-down back for the Cowboys. – Tyler Forness

The take: I truthfully wish the Cowboys find a way to keep Rico Dowdle around. He's been legitimately good and can be the RB1 of the team. With that being said, he's no cowbell and needs someone to be paired with. I would particularly love this pick if the plan is not for him to be a three-down back, though he can be per Forness, but rather as a powerful combination with Dowdle.

Additionally, there's an argument to be made that the Cowboys should start thinking about ways to extend Dak Prescott's career now that he has another injury on his resumé. Running game help could be a strong start.

Round 3, Pick No. 76: Billy Bowman, SAF, Oklahoma

The Dallas Cowboys need defensive backs, and Bowman is underrated right now, but he won't be for long. Bowman would fit in really well in a Mike Zimmer defense. – Tyler Forness

The take: Lowkey, the Cowboys could really use the safety help. Donovan Wilson is set to hit free agency in 2026 and his play has been in a decline, particularly in coverage. Bowman could be the versatile ace Zimmer used to have in Harrison Smith, asking him to fulfill plenty of different roles within his defense. He fell in love with Liufau because of his football IQ last year.

Bowman could be that guy in 2025.
