‘That’s terrible’ – CeeDee Lamb doesn’t hold back discussing his drops during Cowboys’ tough loss to Eagles in NFL Kickoff game
CeeDee Lamb had some great and bad moments during the NFL Kickoff Game.
As the clock approached zero on Thursday night’s NFL Kickoff game, Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb hit his chest repeatedly, seemingly telling his teammates and fans watching around the world that the loss was his fault.
Lamb had two bad drops in the second half of the game, the most notable of which came on the Cowboys’ final drive. Dak Prescott him him right in the hands on a deep route and No. 88 couldn’t haul it in. After the game, Lamb described his performance as “terrible” even after racking up seven catches for 110 yards.
“That’s terrible,” Lamb told reporters. “I can’t point fingers at nobody else, I take full accountability [. . .] I prayed for moments like that. I need to catch the damn ball.”
Lamb and Prescott were locked in but drops made the difference
The Cowboys lost to the Eagles 24-20 in a game in which they came in as eight-point underdogs. Since early in the game, Lamb and Prescott appeared to be locked in on the same page, consistently connecting and attacking Philly’s defense. For Lamb, the problem wasn’t production but timing, as his mistakes came at costly moments.
Fans, however, may find encouragement in how the offense operated as a whole. Dak Prescott was sharp, connecting 62% of his attempts despite the drops. Additionally, head coach Brian Schottenheimer displayed a refreshed rushing offense, utilizing gap concepts like power and counter more often than any recent Cowboys team has.
But at the end of the day, the encouragement lasts little if execution isn’t there in the biggest moments. Schottenheimer understands this.
““We know we’re good enough to beat the Eagles,” Schottenheimer said postgame via Patrik Walker. “We’re good enough to beat anybody. We just have to do it. Those are just words.”
Lamb knows he needs to lock in to make that easier on his team.
“If you think I’m not coming back any times harder than this, you’ve got another thing coming,” Lamb added.
