Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb isn’t someone you can easily replace, not even with George Pickens on the roster.

That’s why when Lamb suffered an ankle injury early in Week 3, concern was high for the Cowboys’ offense. After an attempt to re-enter the game, Lamb was ruled out due to an ankle injury. Postgame, he offered an important update, saying he “absolutely” feels like he can play next week when Dallas takes on Micah Parsons and the Green Bay Packers.

“Let’s just keep our fingers crossed,” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told reporters after revealing the injury wasn’t as serious as it could’ve been, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.

Cowboys await specifics of Lamb’s ankle injury

Per Patrik Walker, the Cowboys know Lamb has an ankle sprain, but it remains to be seen if it’s a high or low sprain. If additional tests reveal it’s a severe high ankle sprain, Lamb would likely head to the Injured Reserve and miss a minimum of four games, based on what we typically see at the NFL level. However, the severity will go a long way to determine it.

Losing Lamb would be a major blow to the Cowboys’ offense as he draws so much attention from opponents’ defenses. Without him, Pickens will face double coverage more often than not and though he’s good, he’s not at Lamb’s level.

Avoiding Injured Reserve, which seems like a possibility based on Lamb’s early comments after the game, could be crucial for the Cowboys’ playoff chances, who have little margin for error at 1-2.
