Not a lot of good news is coming out of the Dallas Cowboys as the team drops to 3-6 after another blowout loss at home but at least DeMarvion Overshown is at the center of the latest positive update.
The second-year linebacker, who has been playing great this season and is one of the very few bright spots of the struggling team, went down with a non-contact injury on Sunday's loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He later returned to the game but questions remained about his health after being down on the field a while before jogging to the locker room.
It turns out there's not much to worry about: Per Ian Rapoport from NFL Network, Overshown "is dealing with bursitis in his right knee, source said. X-Rays were negative and he'll have treatment and rehab. But does not appear to be a significant injury."
"I mean, it was good to see DeMarvion get back out there," Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy told reporters postgame. "I think all of us were a little nervous when he went down, but he's playing excellent football. He is really starting to stack games week in and week out."
Overshown generated pressure on Sunday and has been a key factor for the Cowboys' pass rush amid so many defensive end injuries.
Mike Zimmer has tapped into his impressive speed and explosiveness. Now granted, the young defender isn't playing perfect football, and that includes last weekend as he missed three tackles against the Eagles. He also missed a would-be sack on Jalen Hurts, which resulted on the defense giving up a touchdown pass.
As the Cowboys season goes on, the focus is shifting toward the future. Seeing players like Overshown show signs of promise will represent one of the biggest reasons to keep watching ballgames so it's great to hear Overshown avoided a major injury.
