As the 2024 NFL free agency frenzy starts to die down, the Dallas Cowboys might be about to get busy. Every year, they let the top names fly off the shelves before going shopping themselves.

One of the biggest questions entering the second week of free agency is whether or not they'll look into adding offensive line depth after losing Tyron Smith and Tyler Biadasz to the market.

This is considered a thin offensive tackle year in free agency and the Cowboys are likely to address such a need until April with the 24th overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft. They could also look into adding a guard then, depending on what they do with Tyler Smith, who earned second-team All-Pro honors starting at left guard last year.

There's one move in particular I'm intrigued by as pieces could be falling into place for it to happen: Reuniting with former Cowboys left guard Connor Williams, a former second round pick lineman.

While Williams was with the Miami Dolphins following his departure from Dallas, he started at center for two seasons and played his best football there. He received the highest run blocking grade from PFF among all centers and second best grade among all offensive linemen.

Now, he remains a free agent and the Cowboys need to get better in run blocking. Adding Williams at center would be an upgrade over Tyler Biadasz, who finished 17th in PFF run blocking grade.

Connor Williams fits the sort of signing Cowboys like

Not only has Williams' football been impressive, but circumstances are right for a possible Cowboys reunion as he could come at a low cost. The potential move checks all of the boxes:

  1. He's coming off of a late-season ACL injury, meaning he'll be cheaper.
  2. Williams is reportedly waiting until the summer to sign as he heals, which means the Cowboys could benefit from their $9.5 million post June-1st savings after cutting Michael Gallup last week.
  3. It's a position of serious need for Dallas.

Now granted, the Cowboys could be targeting a center in the Draft as well but as we all know, the board can fall a million different ways when the Draft comes around. Williams could be a smart signing whether it happens before or after the big event.
