UPDATE: This story was updated after additional information came out on Dak Prescott's absence. The Cowboys quarterback is dealing with ankle soreness, and is being held out from practice for precautionary reasons, per multiple reports. Cowboys Nation was sent into a frenzy as reporters at Oxnard, California revealed Dak nor Jerry Jones were at practice. We now know it has nothing to do with a potential contract extension.

The Dallas Cowboys can't stay out of the headlines but this time, the reason why is as mysterious as it is important: Both Dak Prescott and Jerry Jones were absent from the beginning of Friday's practice.

As of the time of this writing, the reason why remains unknown. However, the pairing not being present naturally leads to speculation about potential progress in contract negotiations.

According to Nick Harris from DallasCowboys.com, other top executives including Stephen Jones and Will McClay were not at practice either. Harris added there's "some buzzing going" around practice.

Prescott and the Cowboys have been engaged in contract negotiations all year as the quarterback is currently set to play on a contract year and has a ticket to 2025 free agency. He's expected to become the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, whether that's in Dallas or elsewhere and perhaps the first $60M per year quarterback.

Right now, Cowboys Nation is wondering if today could be the day it all goes down.

This is a developing story and it'll be updated as more information comes in.
