For Dallas Cowboys fans, it's difficult to go a long streak of days without thinking of the infamous Dez Bryant catch/no-catch in Green Bay.
Whether it's a highlight reel of the 2014 Cowboys popping up in your home feed or the slightest controversial call happening in any sport you happen to be watching, that clip of Dez going to the ground plays inside your mind. Or maybe it's the mic'd up audio of him saying "I tried to reach over the goal line!" You read that with his voice, didn't you? Yup.
Well, Bryant and Cowboys Nation were reminded about it on a random Thursday via a controversial Major League Baseball moment and later by Tampa Bay Rays closer Pete Fairbanks.
In a game between the Rays and the New York Yankees, with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres hit a fly ball to short centerfield and as shortstop José Caballero made the over-the-shoulder catch and transitioned to a celebration, he dropped the baseball.
The play was ruled a catch, ending the game, but controversy reigned briefly as the Yankees argued he had dropped it.
Following the game, Fairbanks delivered a quote that took aim at Bryant, claiming "Unlike Dez, he caught it."
Well, damn, Fairbanks. Cowboys fans were probably not even watching and now they've got to reminisce on one of their most painful memories in recent memory.
The Cowboys hope to replace those memories during the 2024 NFL season as training camp quickly approaches. Hope springs eternal this time of the year. However, speaking of No. 88, CeeDee Lamb might not show up barring a new deal being in place by July 24th.
