The Dallas Cowboys host the New York Giants for a Week 10 divisional contest today. If that doesn't sound as exciting as you think it should, there's a good reason for that.
The Cowboys are 17-point favorites entering Sunday. It's a crazy spread and it's the highest of the 2023 NFL season. So you can consider the pressure to be on Dallas for this one as they take on an undrafted rookie quarterback, Tommy DeVito. He'll happen to be playing behind arguably the worst offensive line in football. Simply put, there's no excuse to drop this gotta-have-it game if Dallas wants to steal the NFC East.
Fortunately for the Cowboys, this is a game where they're shaping up to be near full health. Let's check out the players who won't be suiting up for this one.
Cowboys' Week 10 Inactives vs Giants
- WR KaVontae Turpin
- OT Asim Richards
- CB Noah Igbinoghene
- DE Viliami Fehoko
- CB Eric Scott Jr.
- QB Trey Lance (emergency quarterback)
The Cowboys will be down a Pro Bowler, as Turpin is inactive for today's game. He was banged up against the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend and although he returned to the field and even scored a touchdown, he missed all week of practice with a shoulder injury.
His absence puts rookie RB Deuce Vaughn on track to be the team's returner on Sunday. This is a unique opportunity that Vaughn must seize as he's been a healthy scratch since Week 5.
Although missing Turpin shouldn't be a huge deal against this opponent, it's also unfortunate he won't get some WR looks as he continues to develop as a weapon for Mike McCarthy's offense. He only has a 14% snap count this season and needs every chance he can get to impress his coaches.
Other notes on Cowboys' inactives
- There was some speculation about the quarterback position due to the (expected) lopsided nature of this game. Would they make Trey Lance their active backup QB over Cooper Rush to give him some looks? The answer is no, the Cowboys are sticking to their usual approach.
- It's worth noting the Cowboys also didn't shake up their inactives in favor of certain rookies that have yet to see the field. Fehoko Jr. and Scott Jr. will keep their inactive streak going.
- Jalen Brooks, the seventh-round rookie, is active for just the third time this season.
